About
Looking to further enhance the Town with colour, and to bring the community closer together, Godmanchester in Bloom came into being in 2007, when a small group of people, currently a committee of just nine, got together to formulate a plan of action. The first item was the testing of a number of lamp posts, with the first hanging baskets put into place soon after. Since then, additional baskets and street planters have been added, with the Town Council and Godmanchester Community Association quick to help us, together with several hundred trees and new hedges.
That help has continued, and for that we continue to be very grateful. Elsewhere grants have enabled us to continue to fill the planters, plant bulbs and trees, and to add a bench and a hedgerow to the street scene in Silver Street.
Over the years, we have introduced a number of competitions, a monthly Garden Club meeting, a bi-annual Open Gardens Weekend, a Scarecrow Festival and restarted the annual Town Show after a hiatus of around half a century.
